Cul De Sac
Ferrands was founded in 1948 when Denis Devaux established a dairy farm at Ferrands Estate in Cul-de-Sac. The fresh cow’s milk was, for the first fifteen years, sold from the family home on Brazil Street, Castries.
Due to increasing demand Mr. Devaux established a milk processing plant at Mayfield, Castries in 1964 and expanded Ferrands’ product line to include, ice cream, flavoured milk and frozen stick novelties. At that time the ice cream was sold mainly in bulk 5-gallon cans to ice cream vendors who served their customers on the streets of Castries using home built wooden ice cream carts, a trade which spread throughout the island and continues to this day.
